The project envisages a comprehensive reconstruction and expansion of the sports base, replacing outdated infrastructure with a modern, multifunctional sports, study, and research center. The aim is to create a contemporary environment for the needs of RSU students and staff that simultaneously integrates into the historical architecture of Āgenskalns and revitalizes the surrounding area.
As part of the project, the old dormitory building is being dismantled, with a new sports hall built in its place that meets international standards (FIBA/FIVB). The existing sports building is partially preserved and remodeled, integrating modern training halls, research laboratories, administration offices, and other necessary spaces.
The architectural solution respects the surrounding environment - the new volume fits into the existing height scale, with façades crafted in neutral, light tones, and existing trees maximally preserved on the site. The main entrance from Fr. Brīvzemnieka Street is particularly emphasized.
The outdoor space has also been significantly improved - new outdoor sports areas (basketball, outdoor training equipment, running track) have been created, pedestrian paths, relaxation zones, and landscaping have been arranged, as well as organizing the flow of traffic and parking. A strong emphasis has been placed on ensuring environmental accessibility throughout the complex and sustainable solutions.
The renovated RSU sports base will become an important center not only for university sports life and scientific activities but also an attractive facility in the Āgenskalns area.
